Some days being a Mother of a girl are so, so, SO hard. How I wish I could take away playground drama, Queen bees, (and wanna bees), and the inevitable friend issues that arise when Mothers aren't around to helicopter our childrens' every single move. Gone are the playdates where we could sip our Sonic drinks on the back porch and observe and encourage our babies on the proper way to play with friends and behave properly.
No hitting, no biting, no throwing. No going to the bathroom in your pants.
Five years ago, that was it.
Now it's more complex, more intricate. It's having a good buddy one day, and a complete reversal the next. It's ringleaders, followers, and emotions so complex at the age of seven that I can only tremble at the thought of having a fourteen year old.
All I can do as a Mother is remind my daughter of the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross and the people that were ugly to him. No good reason, they were just ugly. So ugly that they were willing to put to death the Son of God. All I can do is to remind her of Jesus' plea to his Father to forgive those who did wrong. Forgive them Father, they know not what they do.
It's a blessing having a child that can be both a leader and a follower. I just pray that when she is following, she is following the right people and she can stand her ground. Standing her ground to be kind, be loving, and not be wrapped in the intricate webs of jealousy, anger, or pettiness.
That when she's a leader, she's a leader for God. That she is an example for others to emulate, and she is behaving as a child of God would behave. Not because I forced her to. Not because her Dad demanded it. Simply because she knows better, and she wants to make good choices. Heavenly choices.
So today my daughter cried on the playground (and she is NOT a crier at school). Will it all be over tomorrow? Probably. Will it happen again 70,000 more times before she graduates high school? Hopefully not, but possibly.
God please help me to equip my child in the ability to be compassionate and loving every one of those 70,000 times.
